Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between brightness and contrast?
Brightness shifts every pixel up or down by the same amount, making the whole image lighter or darker. Contrast pushes values away from mid-grey, so highlights get brighter and shadows get darker at the same time.
How do I make an image black and white?
Pull the saturation slider to −100%, or use the Black & white preset, which also adds a little contrast to compensate for the flatness greyscale usually introduces.
What does hue rotation do?
It rotates every colour around the colour wheel while keeping brightness roughly intact, so a red shirt becomes green or blue without the image getting lighter or darker.
Can I combine several adjustments?
Yes — all five apply together, and the presets are simply combinations that work well. The sliders stay editable after picking a preset.
Why do the highlights turn flat white when I raise brightness a long way?
Because values above the maximum are clipped rather than wrapped. Once a pixel reaches pure white the detail there is gone; lower the brightness and raise contrast instead.
